STARS Junior is a pre-professional musical theatre program for students in grades 6 through 8. Students will receive high-quality training in acting, singing, and dancing before putting those skills into practice in a full-length musical production as part of the STARS mainstage season.

Over the course of four months, students will participate in Saturday masterclasses focused on developing their musical theatre skills. Beginning in February, the ensemble will transition into a full rehearsal schedule as they prepare to perform Little Shop of Horrors.

This program is designed for students who are ready for a more rigorous theatre experience and want to continue developing their skills in a supportive, collaborative environment.

IMPORTANT DATES:

Masterclasses: November – January
Saturdays, 2:00–4:00 PM

Rehearsals: February – May
Tuesdays, 7:00–9:00 PM
Saturdays, 10:00 AM–12:00 PM

Once in the rehearsal process, not all students will be called to every rehearsal

Tech Week: May 17th–19th

Performances: May 20th–23rd

AUDITIONS:

Students will audition for both admission to STARS Junior and roles in the culminating production of Little Shop of Horrors.

For the audition, students should prepare 32 bars (approximately 1 minute) of a musical theatre song in the style of Little Shop of Horrors.

TUITION:

The cost of STARS Junior Ensemble is $1,500.

Tuition includes 20 hours of masterclass instruction and more than 70 hours of rehearsal, culminating in a full-length production as part of the STARS mainstage season.

About the program

  • STARS Junior Ensemble is designed for students in grades 6-8 who are interested in developing their skills in musical theatre and are ready for a more intensive theatre experience.

  • Students will receive specialized training in acting, singing, and dancing, with masterclasses designed to strengthen their overall musical theatre technique and give them skills to carry them through the rehearsal and performances of Little Shop of Horrors and beyond.

  • Students audition for both admission to the program and roles in Little Shop of Horrors. Casting will be based on the needs of the production as well as each student's audition.

  • STARS Junior Ensemble is designed to help students continue developing their skills as they progress through middle school and prepare for more advanced opportunities with STARS in high school.
