Master Acting Class Series

Join us this winter for a series of acting theory and technique master classes taught by STARS Teaching Artist Julien DaSilva.

These classes are aimed at high school and college students looking to learn new skills and sharpen their acting technique.

Physical Acting Methods

This workshop introduces you to powerful movement techniques like Laban, Viewpoints, and the Alexander Technique that professional actors use to create fully embodied performances. With a focus on Laban, you'll explore different ways of moving, exploring, and existing in space to bring unique and memorable characters to life.

Shakespeare

Don't let Shakespeare intimidate you—learn to make it your own! This workshop breaks down the secrets and tools of approaching Shakespeare's text so you can actually understand what you're saying and use it to your advantage. You'll work on sonnets and scenes, discovering how to bring color, confidence, and your own personality to the most commonly requested audition material out there.

Scene Study: Monologues

Take your monologue from good to unforgettable! In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn how to break down a monologue like a pro, discovering your character's objectives, tactics, and given circumstances. You'll perform your piece, receive personalized coaching, and immediately apply what you've learned in a second performance. Bring a monologue you’d like to workshop.

Scene Study: Scene Work

This workshop teaches you the essential skills for scene work—listening, building relationships, and staying in the moment with your scene partner. You'll learn how to break down a scene, explore it with a partner, and create compelling performances. Scenes will be provided in class- no preparation is needed.
